What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is the process of working with people to maintain independence, safety and enjoyment in the activities (i.e. occupations) they participate in in their everyday lives. Occupational Therapists work with each client to assist them in daily activities which can be anything from sleeping, walking and bathing to working, socialising or learning.
We assess each person holistically and look for any barriers or limitations that prevent a client from achieving each step. After assessment, we recommend strategies, adaptive equipment or modifications to assist each client’s lifestyle.
In other words, we’re trained to speak medically, in order to understand medical conditions and how they affect each client, but think functionally to people ‘get on and do what they do.’
